A recent research conducted by the American Heart Association (AHA) breaks the common belief that vitamin D can improve cholesterol level in the body. Intake of this nutrient for sure helps to improve the level of this nutrient in the body and treats lack or deficiency but has no effect on cholesterol. Treating the vitamin D deficiency is an obvious task when taking supplements for this nutrient and this does not show any extraordinary effect on your body as far as cholesterol level is considered. In this research, the subjects were provided vitamin D supplements in one or the other form. As it was not observed to bring any change in the cholesterol level of the body, having any such supplement was of no use. However, some researchers had a query regarding the artificial way of providing vitamin D rather than giving the body an environment so that it itself prepares the nutrient. Thus, another research has to be conducted in coming months.
Vitamin D is the only vitamin that is prepared in the body in presence of sunlight. This vitamin is present in your skin in a form that cannot be utilized by the body. When your skin is receives sunlight, it transforms the vitamin D into a form that can be utilized by the body. Thus sunlight is essential for formation of vitamin D. In the research conducted by the AHA, about 10 people were examined who lacked in vitamin D. All of them were provided with vitamin D supplement or megadose of 50,000 international units of vitamin D3 and a placebo. The vitamin D3 provided to the patients was successful in fulfilling the insufficiency of the nutrient but brought no effect on the cholesterol level. It was found that the people receiving supplements almost tripled the amount of the vitamin in their body.
Thus, it was said that vitamin D is useless for lowering cholesterol. You must be aware that there are two types of cholesterols. LDL or low density lipoprotein is one of the types of cholesterol and is considered as bad cholesterols. This type of cholesterol is bad for heart and the body and its level in the body should be controlled. HDL or the high density lipoprotein is another type of cholesterol found in the body but this is not as bad as the LDL. Contrary to what it is thought about the cholesterols, this can be healthy in many ways.
The research did not bring any good effect of having vitamin supplements; however a question arose in their mind that what if the vitamin D is not provided as supplements and is made to be generated in the body in presence of sunlight. Is that going to make any difference in the results? To check this, it has been decided that the AHA will go through another research this fall. This time the vitamin D deficiency will be fulfilled through natural methods. Apart from the effect of vitamin D supplements, the bad effects of cholesterol was also revealed and excessive cholesterol level was said to cause various diseases like strokes and other heart problems.
